Spa Review: The Plaza Spa – at the Plaza Hotel, New York

It’s not uncommon for large hotels now to incorporate their own spa, and The Plaza is no exception. This amazing French baroque style building on Central Park houses a luxurious spa for the benefit of its guests and others.

The minute you step out of the lift into the basement spa, there is a feeling of calm that takes you a long way from Fifth Avenue, but what really recommends it is not only the excellence of the range of treatment including facials, body wraps, massage, reflexology and shiatsu, but the choice of products used. The Naturopathica range is formulated from natural ingredients grown in the unpolluted Blue Ridge Mountains, containing essential oils and herbs, and free from artificial preservatives, dyes or petroleum-based products. Choose from a Pumpkin Enzyme Peel to a Cooling Yarrow Circulation Gel, Calming Seaweed Mask to Neroli Toning Serum (www.naturopathica.com).

New to the Spa is the Kerstin Florian Caviar range of skincare, including Firming Complex, Eye Crème, and Age-Defense crème. The key ingredients are caviar from the Caspian Sea, the Chinese herb bupleurum extract, the toning antioxidant caffeine, and the healing antioxidant co-enzyme A (www.kerstinflorian.com).

Not only are treatments on offer, there is a herbal whirlpool, and the option of couples’ treatments to share, plus exercise facilities and for the really energetic - fitness training with a personal trainer in the park!

Further information is available from www.fairmont.com - go to Hotels & Resorts, locate the Plaza and then click on Recreation to locate details about the Spa.
